MITOSIS AND MEIOSIS

MITOSIS AND MEIOSIS

1. MITOSIS

  • Mitosis is the type of cell division that results in the formation of two daughter cells.
  • Each daughter cell have same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent cell.
  • This type of division takes place in somatic cells(Cells other than reproductive cells).
  • Number of chromosomes remain diploid in daughter cells as in parent cell.
  • Mitosis is necessary for repair and growth of the cell.

2. MEIOSIS

  • Meiosis is a type of cell division that results in the formation of four daughter cells.
  • Each daughter cell have half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
  • This type of division takes place in gametic cells(cells that help in reproduction)
  •  Number of chromosomes in daughter cells become haploid(single).
  • Meiosis is necessary for reproduction.
